Become a Technical Delegate
Technical Delegates are appointed by IPCH to oversee the planning, delivery and evaluation of international Powerchair Hockey competitions. They help ensure that events are delivered in accordance with IPCH Regulations, organisational standards and competition requirements.
Working as a key link between the Sport Executive Committee, World Abilitysport and the Local Organising Committee, Technical Delegates coordinate the many operational and sporting elements required to deliver a successful international competition.
Technical Delegate Responsibilities
Technical Delegates oversee the competition throughout its lifecycle, from the allocation of hosting rights to post-event evaluation and reporting.
Their responsibilities include:
- Supporting the planning and preparation of international competitions.
- Working with the Local Organising Committee to ensure competition requirements are met.
- Overseeing competition operations, logistics and key sporting procedures.
- Coordinating with referees, Jury Members, Classifiers and other competition officials.
- Supporting accreditation and other competition-related processes.
- Acting as a liaison between IPCH, World Abilitysport and the Local Organising Committee.
- Monitoring compliance with IPCH Rules, Regulations and organisational standards.
- Identifying and resolving operational issues during competitions.
- Evaluating the delivery of competitions and preparing post-event reports.
- Supporting continuous improvement across future IPCH competitions.
Technical Delegate Eligibility
Technical Delegates need a strong understanding of Powerchair Hockey and the international competition environment.
Candidates should demonstrate:
- In-depth knowledge of Powerchair Hockey, its rules and international community.
- Strong understanding of the Rules of the Game, Competition Regulations and Organiser Regulations.
- Knowledge of international event operations, including competition logistics and accreditation processes.
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and across multiple stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams, or equivalent collaboration tools.
- A genuine interest in international sport and major sporting events.
- Very good command of both spoken and written English.
Technical Delegate Development Pathway
Unlike some other official roles, the Technical Delegate pathway is based primarily on practical experience and mentoring.
Candidates express their interest to IPCH and, where appropriate, enter a structured on-the-job development programme. They work alongside experienced Technical Delegates and gain practical experience in the planning, delivery and evaluation of international competitions.
This allows candidates to develop their knowledge of IPCH procedures, event operations and stakeholder management in a real competition environment before being certified by IPCH.
